Planning on proposing to the love of your life? Trying to figure out the best way to pop the question? And on top of that, hire a top notch photographer to make it Instagrammable? Two words: Lantern Festival.
This month, I was graced with the opportunity to capture Ben & Nikki's engagement at the Night Lights Event lantern festival at the Maple Grove Raceway in Pennsylvania. This event travels all across the US and hosts a number of great activities and food trucks throughout the day, just to top it off with a beautiful lantern release after sundown.
I arrived at Maple Grove Raceway around 7:30 PM, and lanterns were set to be released around 9:00 PM. I spent some time scouting the location, sneakily locating my couple, planning my positions around them, and taking candids! I made some friends along the way; two girls seated a few feet ahead of them were nice enough to share their space (and their s'mores!) with me once I told them what I was up to. They were just as excited as I was! I was able to blend in and take candids of them, although there is a quick shot I got where Nikki looked straight into my lens!! Fortunately, she didn't think much of it.
Around 9:00 PM, beautiful glowing lanterns began filling the sky. Ben prepared their lanterns and released them into the air to join the rest. As Nikki knelt down to grab her phone, Ben knelt down with a ring in his hand. She looked back up at Ben stood up in shock! And the rest is history. I'm sure you can visualize the picture I'm painting here, but fortunately, I captured the whole thing with my camera.
